History of the Realm

THE YEAR 1009 OF THE AGE OF LIGHT...
1009 AL: (2000)
Peace has fallen on the duchy of Allwyn. . . or has it?
Melissa, Aaron's ward, is officially appointed as the new Baroness
of Northgate. Some of her citizens might feel disgruntled as
to the current politics. Within her new borders, ex-Servosan
and Tomician forces refuse to leave quietly, while the Barony
is divided into 20 new Shires, land divisions within Northgate.
New leaders are appointed to govern most of these areas, which
will hopefully improve the order and defense of the Barony.
The power of the Houses has disappeared with the absence of
the House Lords. The Elementals seem to have withdrawn their
support from the Houses and their Elemental powers have ceased
to function completely. Working with the Elements has replaced
commanding them.
The power of life and death has been revoked from mortals and
put back in the realm of the Fates. The powers of Light, Shadow,
and Darkness are growing and becoming more tangible and controllable,
yet intense hatreds between the races and monsters have flared
anew.
The Old Ones seem to be passing with the disappearance and possible
death of the Cyrptmaster and the unexplained absence of Paristroika.
As the new year begins, new and powerful undead have been released
upon the land. Without the Cyrptmaster's control, killings and
necromancy are on the rise. The fate of the undercaverns and
the great libraries are also in question, while the Dark elves
and Mind Flayers are more active and deadly. The old order is
crumbling and the new order is in doubt.
Local politics are becoming increasingly more important as the
great nobles have concerns close to home.
3/18/1009 AL: The adventurers of the area
stumble across barbarian plains. Mercenaries have been brought
in by one clan, which has raised a few questions, but together
they wiped out another clan devoted to guarding an ancient evil,
one that animates things around it for protection. Apparently
originally imprisoned by the Cryptmaster, without the barbarians
to contain it, the strange jellyfish-type creature escaped and
caused a bit of chaos. Together, though, the adventurers managed
to destroy it and end the threat.
4/15/1009 AL: A quest for some ancient
tomes of knowledge led adventurers to an old nearby keep. After
dispatching some goblinoid resistance, they encountered many
forms of the undead. The tomes were eventually found, along
with a strange cell with an even stranger prisoner. Finally,
emerging from the bowels of the keep, the adventurers opened
a door looking over a misty valley crawling with rather powerful
undead with glowing eyes. Nevertheless, they managed to find
a way out, though there seemed to be some sort of latent magical
effect on the individuals...
4/28/1009 AL: Undead seem to be more rampant
as adventurers return to Battice. Many old faces have returned,
with new ones appearing every minute. All this, along with strange
disturbances in the faerie realm, dark elven attacks, and fallout
because of the war have all created a flurry of emotions among
the populace. Are things getting better, or is something darker
yet to come in the near future?
5/29/1009 AL: The latent magical effect
on the adventurers visiting the keep a month ago finally took
effect, teleporting them to the plane of Vor, a plane with its
own troubles. In this realm though, spirits are in peril, while
the realm of Death itself has changed. Hopefully, the establishment
of the Shires will help to protect Northgate from more widespread
attacks, necromantic or otherwise.
6/9/1009 AL: A return to Barlow has unearthed
many things. A rogue dark elven house was busy at work, while
the Shires of Belinik and Hero's Reach have requested aid from
adventurers in our area. And just when things were starting
to settle down, more undead arise to cause havok!
7/28/1009 AL: A few people appeared in
town recently with an anti-undead, anti-necromancer message
that brings news of a rising backlash against the undead forces
gathering in the realm. Also, another group of mages (also anti-necromancer)
have made an entrance into the area, conducting their own elusive
experiments. Several of their golem servants were seen attacking
undead as well as the town's people. A plot to kill Alaria,
queen of the Fey, by her fiance was foiled, much to the relief
of the Fey realm inhabitants.
8/15/1009 AL: A visitation to the Folly's
End Inn in Belinik revealed slacking attendance due to the interference
of the Razor's Edge mercenary group and some ex-Servosan troops
with a force of Dark Dwarves at their disposal. Along with a
heat wave causing a drought in the area, things were a bit more
than the citizens of Belinik could take! The adventurers of
the region managed to thwart the union of forces, and even uncover
that a fire elemental was behind the drought. Due to the heavy
losses, the Razor's Edge went legit and swore allegiance to
Lord Barbanik and the Shire of Belinik, eventually becoming
his loyal guard. Surprising indeed!
8/25/1009 AL: The Knights of the Panther
requested help to close several portals leading to several planes
of evil. More convergence points with Vor also appeared, allowing
for more work to be done in helping the citizens of that alternate
plane.
9/15/1009 AL: A meeting was held by Kalpax,
a half-undead beholder necromancer. His desires to establish
a power base in the area, in absence of the Cryptmaster's presence,
were foiled when all of his minions were killed before the meeting
could take place. This left his envoy without anyone to talk
to, save the adventurers who appeared to deal with the minions.
Also, Warren Randall, a minor noble on the western edge of the
Freehold of Barlow, made his intentions known to become a representative
to the Baroness's court. Lastly a force of Dark Elves was killed
in their attempt to retaliate for past issues, and a poor freak
show had to be forcibly dealt with before it could spread chaos
over the land.
10/6/1009 AL: The realm of the Fey suffered
the loss of Queen Alaria while the realm was freed from the
threat of a vile necromancer lich, Nakor. Furthermore, a mischievous
imp was reunited with its owner, and the young lady was somewhat
pleased with the outcome.
11/11/1009 AL: Sabine Sadira's family
members have been rescued by some adventurers of Barlow and
Battice. With her relatives rescued, Sadira can return her attention
back to the Shire of Daggerford as the realm waits for the snows
of winter.
