COS Parents - would you be interested in a gaming track geared towards children? If so, what is the best age range?

If there is interest (enough for a table of players), does anyone have a desire to try and put together some G rated adventures for kids?

I think this is a great idea! Our lives are already scheduled out for the March CON but this is something to start thinking about! The only thought I have about age groups is to be ready to adapt to the ages of whomever signs up, and if necessary be able to divide into two groups based on age.

My kiddos aren't quite old enough for a table-top type thing yet. However, if it was something easy enough, they might get into it. The oldest is 6 and plays board/card games, and both the 6 and almost-4-year-old play video games. We usually try to get to the Con on Saturday. I can't volunteer since I'll be chasing the little one around.

As parents, what do you think would be needed to pull something like this off? For example, you would probably need an area for the kids, and Instana mentioned things for different age groups.

Guess it wouldn't need to be RPGs - they could do board games, macaroni art or some other kind of craft as long as they were happy and in a safe environment.

One more thing - since we're so close to COSCON, I doubt we could put a kids activity track together for it. Would any parents or volunteers be interested in putting an activity track together for SIBCON?

First off- No kickball. WE do not need to see all the adults get beat soundly by a young girl (again).

Really, I think I have a role playing game geared toward the 10 ish crowd. It is a fantasy game like D&D. I have it as a PDF, so if we get a person to run....I have a role playing game for them to run.

I think it's a good idea if done in a seperate room. I am not sure alot of Con attendee's would want to hear lot's of loud children in the main room, and kids can generate some HIGH DECIBLE NOISE. Just my two cents.

at PAX, I went to a panel that was about "raising your geek kids". there are a lot of DnD style games that are hashed down to be VERY simple that even a four year old could play. I forgot what some of them were but they are very interesting. Jason and Abby might remember more than me.

I've seen a few articles online similar to the panels you are discussing Tim. That's what sparked this topic. I've also seen other conventions try and run a kids activity or special games geared towards kids. It seemed like such a nice thing to have for the kids and parents, while it also gets a new generation of gamers to have fun at our conventions.
