The History Of The Realm
Restless In Peace

RESTLESS IN PEACE

In the 1008th year of the Age of Light, the Third Barony Wars came to a close and a peace treaty was signed. The 'peacekeeping' forces of Tomicia left Shallomar, allowing many elves to return to their home. Baron Aaron left Northgate to assume Land Baron rights of the Barony of Servosa as per the treaty conditions, allowing his neice, Melissa, to rule Northgate now that she was of proper age. With Baron Aaron trying to rebuild the infrastructure of Servosa, hostilities ceased with the lizardmen in the southern swamps. With Duke von Ghering under close scrutiny now, many scheming plans to sew seeds of distrust among the demihuman races also ceased.

Almost forgotten, the dwarves sat in the Hammerfall Mountains and waited for their allies to turn their attention to the situation in Tankard. The war was over, so the Treaty of Tankard was now null and void, and the dwarves wanted to return to their homeland. Thus, when several months passed and no action was taken, the dwarves began to stir.

During the next few years, the dwarves led small raids to begin weakening the defenses of their dark kin and to reclaim secret weapon caches and hidden ore storage sites located within the tunnels below Tankard. The dwarves even hired adventurers and mercenaries to attack small guard camps or provide diversions while key tunnels were collapsed. The dwarven leaders were not completely agreed upon attacking Tankard without the aid of Northgate or other allies, however, so raids were few and far between.

By the end of 1012 AL, the dwarven generals felt that the time to strike was drawing close, though a few, such as General Durim Hammerfist, cousin of the late King Daragor Hammerfall, still urged to proceed cautiously, lest they overstep their alliances with those that still viewed the Treaty of Tankard as a valid pact.
