A Closer Look Inside...
History
This area has always been the heartland of Northgate. Close to both Crescent and Stormhaven, it has been quiet for centuries. The Army long ago pushed to the major treats to the region, though they can't drive out everything.

Prior to the war with Servosa, this area was considered civilized by the standards of the north. Being a quiet protected area near the two major cities of Northgate, many human mages made there homes here. Towers dotted the tranquil farm landscape. In addition, this was the traditional home of the Sadira family. The Regent Sabine was often here at the estate.

During the war both Servosan and Tomician forces were in this area. Many of the Mages were killed and their towers destroyed or abandoned. At the end of the war, it was decided that the Shire would be placed in the hands of the Family Sadira. It was both their traditional family home and well protected from attack. The latter being important because of the heavy losses suffered by the family during the war.

Sabine Sadira was named acting Lady of the Shire. Although she was unable to present herself to the Baroness at the time, she did send a representative from her family in her place.

Geography
The landscape of Daggerford is mostly low rolling hills, with few wooded areas. The lowland areas between the hills are usually marshy and full of tangled brush. The largest of these marshes is known as Miasima Swamp. The hills and non-marsh areas are heavily farmed and villages sit up on top of the hills often surrounded buy wooden or stone walls.

The marshes provide a constant problem with trolls and hostile plant life. However, aside from farming they also provide the major resource in the area. Spices and other plants that are rare in northgate are often found growing here.

Economy
Farming to produce food for Crescent and Stormhaven is the major industry in Daggerford. In addition, the harvesting of rare marsh plant life is profitable alliterative. It is extremely dangerous, because of the Trolls and other monsters. But the chance at profit keeps people interested. These rare pants and animals are used for many purposes, including Alchemy, Herbalism, spell components, and cooking.

The marsh areas are leased to individual families (known as Harvesters) by the Sadira family for harvesting purposes. These areas are guarded against poachers and rogue harvesters.

Population
As in most of Northgate Humans are the main race of Daggerford. However, there is a sizable demi-human population, with Lizardmen and Dark-elves being the most prominent. The Lizardmen dominate the harvesting industry in the swamps, as they are naturally suited for it. The wealth that they have gained has made them fairly powerful in the politics of the shire. The population of Dark Elves has risen dramatically in the last few years, for no reason that is obvious, but something is attracting them to settle here. In addition to these two races, almost every demi-human race is present in the shire, with the exception of Dwarves. Dwarves are extremely rare in Daggerford, for no reason that anyone who is not a Dwarf can figure out.

Continuing Trends
The Sadira family continues its attempts to rebuild their influence from before the war, with political marriages and alliance agreements. The Shire's farmland areas are moving back toward the stable heartland area it was before the war. And the Harvesters, look to be on the verge of a feud, over lease boundaries. Daggerford looks as though it will remain an area of contrasts in the future.

The Sadira Family (ruling Family)
One of the oldest human families in Northgate, the Sadira family can trace its roots back almost to the days of Hadran. It has always been influential in the politics of the Barony, and recently in the politics of the entire Duchy. However, despite all of their connections only one member of the immediate family achieved any post in the government of Northgate prior to the war. Sabine Sadira was name as one of the Regents to help stabilize Northgate. She proved to be very capable and loyal to the Barony, but was later believed to be assassinated, leaving the family without its matriarch and the Barony without one of its Regents.

At the end of the war, the Sadira family was rewarded for its service and continued support during the troubled years before. When asked to name a representative for the shire, The named Sabine Sadira to be the Lady. A representative was sent to Stormhaven when the Shire was formed, as Sabine was unable to present herself to the Baroness at the time. There have been no reports that Sabine has been seen by anyone, but direction keeps coming from the family estate in her name.
